Platform: Windows, Mac; has a syncing option through iOS and/or Web, iPad App
Strengths:
  • Good option for major research projects; has unlimited reference storage
  • 7000+ predefined bibliographic formatting styles and ability to create styles
  • Share citations from one of your Libraries with up to 100 people
  • Synchronize your references between up to three of your personal computers, an online library, and your iPad or iPhone through EndNote Sync (you must be the owner and user of all three computers
  • Spellcheck
  • Dedicated customer support staff
Weaknesses:  
  • Costs money
  • Browser plug-in to import citations from articles or other Web documents is available, but has limited functionality
  • Learning curve needed to utilize EndNote's full functionality

Citation Styles

  • EndNote ships with 7000 popular styles. To add your favorite journal to your EndNote, use the Style Finder to find your style, then follow the instructions on that page to download and install. (Note that the Style Finder page also provides instructions on how to install all styles, or install styles by category). 

Using EndNote while away from your computer and your Endnote Desktop software

  • You can create an EndNote online account that enables you to work with your EndNote Library through any Web browser. Go to http://myendnoteweb.com to register the email address you used to purchase your EndNote Desktop software. 
  • We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you back up your EndNote Library before setting up the syncing process (File, Save a Copy). EndNote tech support experts are happy to walk you through back-up and syncing how-to's, depending on your operating system and version of EndNote.

Using EndNote and PubMed

  • Follow this guide to easily export one or more PubMed citations and import to your EndNote Desktop
