Funding discovery databases help identify opportunities from public and private funders. UVa has licensed three tools for funding discovery: 

• Pivot - includes over 28K federal, non-federal, foundation, and private funding opportunities from over 15K funders around the globe, as well as 3M awarded grants and profiles (sponsored by the UVA Vice President for Research)
• Grant Forward - grants from over 15K sponsors worldwide, from federal, corporate to private funding organizations, with 3K pre-solicitations and 1.3M funded awards (sponsored by the UVA Vice President for Research)
• Foundation Directory Online - database of over 140K foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities in the U.S. (access provided by UVA Corporate and Foundation Relations)​

In addition, several resources allow you to search grant-related publication data in order to see trends and patterns:

• Web of Science - this literature database allows you to refine your search results to view funders associate with the publications you retrieved

Logging In

To access: Pivot is a UVA subscription; accessible through Netbadge. Do not select "Create an account"; you already have an account via Netbadge. To login:

• Click on Sign In
• From the "Access Pivot-RP using your Institution's Credentials (Shibboleth)" - choose University of Virginia
• You will then be directed to sign in using Netbadge.

Foundation Directory Online - Access and Guidance

UVA Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) provides the following guide on searching foundations (UVA only). NOTE: CFR assists UVA faculty and staff with working with foundations. Work with them if you are interested in pursuing foundation funding (some funder relations are controlled by the Office of the President and/or Foundation Relations, and you must get prior approval before initiating contact with these funders.)

• Start at the Corporate and Foundation Relations page and click on the Research Funders tab (you'll be required to Netbadge in). On this page, scroll down to Foundation Directory Online.
