The Health Sciences Library welcomes Lucy Carr Jones to the position of Research Data and Scholarly Communications Librarian!

Lucy came to HSL in 2019, as a member of the Service Desk team. During that time, Lucy completed her Master of Science in Information Science, and began assisting the Research and Data Services department in providing both research impact reports for faculty and training on research data management topics.

Of Lucy, her supervisor, RDAS Manager Andrea Denton, says, “I am thrilled to have Lucy join the Research & Data Services team permanently. Lucy has been working half-time in this capacity at HSL for over six months and has been instrumental in our abilities to continue our research impact reports and to develop new services such as research data management training for graduate students”.

With her understanding of research data management principles and the scientific publishing landscape, Lucy will assist the Library in further developing research data support services and scholarly communication programs- both of which are much-needed as changes in the funding and publishing landscape (including new grant-related data sharing requirements that will go into effect in January 2023 and which Lucy hopes will spur greater interest in biomedical data sharing) are ongoing. Of her interest in the position, Lucy said, “I was drawn to this role because of my interest in bibliometrics and data management,as well as my belief in open access, open data, and open science.”
Lucy’s new responsibilities will also include developing methods to better support delivery of publication metrics to individuals and departments, developing software training for research capture and dissemination, advising on data sharing practices to fulfill grant requirements, and engaging with the research and librarian community around these issues. In addition, she will make contributions as a member of the information services team by supporting reference requests and literature searches.
