About the Patient & Family Library Service

Where are you located?

Our librarians are based in the Health Sciences Library. We are happy to meet you in the main hospital lobby, if that's easier for you. You can ask for us at the hospital lobby information desks, and they will call us to tell us you're here. Or you can come directly to the Health Sciences Library. Whichever you prefer!

You can also contact us by phone or using the Ask Us form online.

What does the library do for patients and families?

The library offers:

  •     Health information and other research help
  •     MyChart help, for online access to medical records
  •     Quiet place to study, read, or wait

The library is open to UVA patients, families, and guests, as well as to the general public.

Can I bring my child to the library?

We have a monthly storytime program, when Briar, the Book Fairy, comes to visit. Children can hear Briar read a story, and can get a book to take home with them. Briar is a funny and clever fairy who will bring a smile to your child's face -- and to yours!

Where can I find good health information online?

We recommend the websites listed on our Patient & Family Resources page. Click the blue button to go to Resources page, or go directly to blog.hsl.virginia.edu/plibrary/ .
