Scholarly Communications

The Association of College and Research Libraries defines scholarly communication as "the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use" (ACRL, 2003). This includes formal publications like books and journal articles, theses, and grant proposals, as well conference presentations and posters. This guide will introduce you to resources on pertinent topics like copyright, choosing a journal, open access publishing, preprints, posters, ORCID, OER, the NIH Public Access Policy, and Libra, UVA's institutional repository. Please Ask Us if you have questions or if there are other topics you would like us to address.
