Every day the Health Sciences Library serves a variety of patrons, including hospital clinicians, students from the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing, the research community, the public, and more. In order to meet the needs of this diverse patron base, all Library technology projects pass through three primary pillars of consideration:
- Institutional branding
- ADA compliance
- Testing/stakeholder review
To ensure the most efficient access for all users, the Health Sciences Library Information Technology team aligns in-house computing and technology with Health System Information Technology (HIT) Services and academic Information Technology Services (ITS), whenever possible. Some recently-completed Library initiatives that demonstrate this commitment include:
1. UVA hospital and UVA academic patrons may now log onto Library hospital computers with their respective hospital or academic credentials. This increases access to our resources without sacrificing security.
2. The new Library website was branded with a combination of UVA and Health System branding elements, utilizes universal NetBadge login credentials for security, and maintains basic compliance with the University’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance initiatives.
3. Library computers now distribute both Health System and Academic security alerts.
