Moore Library News - HSL at University of Virginia-Claude Moore Health Sciences Library

Recently I’ve been enjoying the Amazon hit TV series “Being Erica” where Erica’s therapist sends her back in time to learn anew by reliving past experiences. Dr. Neeral Shah, GI Fellowship Program Director at UVA Health System, has done something remarkably similar with clinical training using a technology he terms “360-video in virtual reality”.

In the third quarter of 2018, Dr. Shah and his team conducted a study in which they compared the efficacy of reliving a live medical training session in a 360-video virtual reality environment versus watching the same medical training session on a computer-delivered video. The results were remarkable. In short, the results demonstrated a significantly higher training engagement level for the clinical trainee.

HSL is pleased to announce the addition of two new resources to our digital collection: Red Book Online and Trip Pro Medical Database! Red Book OnlineThe latest clinical guidance on the manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of more than 200 childhood infectious diseases. The AAP Red Book is published every three years, but the pediatric infectious disease landscape is changing continuously. Health Sciences Library Engages Architecture Students in Space Planning Project

On March 18th, the Health Sciences Library hosted thirty-five students from the University of Virginia Architecture School. Under the guidance of their course instructors, these students will be developing design plans to assist in the space planning efforts at the Health Sciences Library. The event included a presentation of space planning survey results over the past year and a tour of the library's 2nd floor space, which is the scope of the project. Plenty of food and refreshments were available to show the library's appreciation for the students.On April 8th and 10th, the students will showcase their original drawings at the Health Sciences Library. This event will provide library patrons the opportunity to provide feedback. The final drawings will be presented on Aprill 24th and 29th.
