Community Engagement

Services for the Community

Are you a (physical, mental, emotional) health-focused non-profit working in Charlottesville or surrounding counties?
If so, do you need assistance in finding and applying for grants?

The University of Virginia subscribes to GrantForward and Web of Science's Grants Index, powerful funding discovery tools, and, as part of its community engagement services, a librarian can search them for you and, if a match is found, aid you in writing the application.

If you'd like to set up a meeting to discuss your non-profit's needs, email Kimberley Barker, Librarian for Belonging & Community Engagement: krb3k@virginia.edu

MedlinePlus

"MedlinePlus is a service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world's largest medical library, which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our mission is to present high-quality, relevant health and wellness information that is trusted, easy to understand, and free of advertising, in both English and Spanish. Anywhere, anytime, on any device—for free."

Kimberley is happy to provide MedlinePlus trainings for your volunteers, staff, or clients via Zoom.

Are you in need of evidence-based research to support a grant application, or to meet some other need?

The Health Sciences Library subscribes to specialized medical research databases and, as UVA is a publicly-funded institution, you have the right to access these databases in the library (remote access is available only to UVA students and employees). However, if you prefer to leave the searching to an experienced librarian, Kimberley Barker, Librarian for Belonging & Community Engagement is happy to assist. Email her (krb3k@virginia.edu) to set up a meeting to discuss your organization's needs.

Is your Charlottesville and surrounding counties (physical, mental, emotional) health-focused non-profit in need of a specialized subject guide? If so, HSL might be able to assist.

Email Librarian for Belonging & Community Engagement Kimberley Barker (krb3k@virginia.edu) to set up a meeting.
