As librarians, we understand the importance of quickly finding the authoritative and timely information that you need. Because of that, we have created two coronavirus/COVID-19 LibGuides.
The first guide is a collaboration between Maggie Nunley (Teaching & Learning Librarian at Alderman Library), and Kimberley Barker (Librarian for Digital Life at Claude Moore Health Sciences Library). Maggie and Kimberley will update the guide throughout the pandemic to insure that you have access to timely information and extensive coverage of the topic.
The guide is here: https://guides.lib.virginia.edu/covid19 and includes sections on:
- Current Updates (Situation Summaries, Local Updates, Dashboards, Archived Communications)
- CDC Coronavirus Microsite ("This micro-site is part of the CDC Public Health Media Library and is update regularly with the most current information about coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): outbreak locations, risk assessment, and travel guidance.")
- Resources for the Public (Prevention)
- Resources for Researchers (Databases, Specialized Search pages, Data Repositories)
- Misinformation and the Infodemic (Tracking Information, Fact Checking Resources, The Infodemic)
- Infographics and Posters (Only the Facts, Infographics)
- Media Resources (Online Print, Videos, Podcasts)
- Data Resources (Dashboards, Visualizations)
The second guide was created by Abbey Heflin (Head of Collections Management) at Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, and is found here:

If you need help with this (or any other topic), use the Ask Us! form and a librarian will contact you shortly.

Please understand that this is a fast-moving situation, and that changes to this and other services may happen abruptly.
Instruction
Effective immediately, Library instruction is moving from in-person sessions to a variety of alternate delivery methods, in alignment with both University and UVA Health directives. These delivery methods will include both posting class materials online and making recorded sessions available via Zoom.
If you're registered for an upcoming class, check https://cal.hsl.virginia.edu/ for information on each session. Please note that some sessions have been canceled, and that this is reflected on the calendar, as well.
If you’re looking for other resources for skills-based training, consider the online learning opportunities available to all UVA and Health System faculty, staff, and students, on topics from Excel to Python. See:
Consultations
Please also note that the Research Concierge and eCRF/REDCap support (which is usually available on Wednesday and Friday mornings, respectively) will not be available until further notice.
Please go to: https://guides.hsl.virginia.edu/data/services for directions on accessing the iTHRIV portal and using the "Submit Request" button to request a consultation.
Consultations by the library’s data consultants remain available by appointment: please use our Ask Us form to contact us and we’ll work with you to set up a time and method (including phone, email, and Zoom), to best meet your needs.
